Road map milestone

We are now approaching the end of Phase 3b of the development of DigiClerk.  We have an online, operational minimal viable product (MVP) with a main focus of capturing the data.  The website now shows the growing volume of records by place, country, event and people.  The map is working and all records with a lat long now appear on the map.  The mobile phone app works at the front end capturing the images and uploading them onto the system.  The Yachting Collection now has some 1,700 records and demonstrates the functionality of the DigiClerk Collections offering.  The Stamp Collection has gone live with nearly 100 records.    This is a major step forward for DigiClerk as it allows Founder Members to sign up and subscribe.  Support us.   The visualisation of the records will be activated in this next phase too.  Onwards and upwards!

Family research – the Turps

Family research involving parish records.  Follow us in this blog to see how we find out about the family Turps, buried in Cavendish. We start looking and find in the Parish Register of Burials that Mira Turp was buried in unconsecrated ground in plot 11.  Note that, on this first page, we find that Martha Turp is buried in the same plot.

Looking at the Parish Cemetery burial plan we find M Turp and M Turp in plot 11.

When DigiClerk goes to the parish cemetery we find plot 11 and there is Mira Turp but not Martha Turp.  Also, the graveside mentions Mira’s husband, John Turp, who died long before her in 1874 and was buried in the churchyard.  This tells us that the churchyard was still taking burials in 1874.

We now need to find Martha Turp’s burial place and perhaps why John Turp died so early.

Museum

Why should a museum partner with DigiClerk Ltd?  The reasons will vary depending on the size of the museum, the geographical coverage and the current online presence.   What DigiClerk Ltd (DC) can offer is the identification, categorisation and linking with other records to create a narrative about someone in the past.  DC will reach down into public and partners’ datasets and, using AI and graph database technology, create the links with other records related to the same person.  We are currently at the development stage seeking museums as partners to trial the technology.  Once proven, data owner partners (museums and others) to Dc will have the potential to earn a new revenue stream for otherwise inaccessible records.  For smaller museums, DC can also offer a simple online accounting system to ease the admin burden and an online presence to summarise what the museum has to offer and where it is.   For more info please contact us.

Marriage allegations

We are busy uploading some Suffolk marriage allegations and thought that we should stop and understand what they actually mean.  A marriage licence allegation is an intention to marry.  It isn’t proof that a marriage took place but, until a marriage certificate or entry in a church register can be identified, the marriage licence allegation may be the only record available.
