What do we mean by ‘Archive in your attic’? Well, everyone is an amateur archivist. You might find old documents or photos when tidying up in an attic or doing some house clearance.
If any of those records have a person in them with a date they are suitable to upload onto DigiClerk (DC). If the record has a person, a date and a location, then brilliant, even better for uploading onto DC. It could be a birth certificate, a marriage or death certificate. Perhaps a photo that puts them in a location at a date or picture of their gravestone or a newspaper clipping? They can be scanned in using the DC phone app or using scanners and then uploaded onto the collection.
Here is a live example of an archive in your attic, well archive in an office in reality! An A4 sized archive box from home with information about family members from my father’s side.
There are military records, marriage invites, photos, marriage certificates, death certificates and so much more. There is a letter from a railway employee in India apologizing for exposing himself on the platform and other gems. As these are digitised and uploaded we will explore each record and demonstrate how valuable they are when exploring the life of individuals and families.
The majority of these records will be uploaded to the People Collection.
