Today has been spent loading more yachting records onto the Yachting Collection. They have mostly been boats beginning with ‘Q’ or ‘R’ and they have produced some interesting images of some quirky boats.
Rana Plast
The first photo is of a Rana Plast Skipper and two rather inappropriately dressed gentlemen. Rana Plast appear to still be operating in Norway although their website is not working. However they still they list themselves as making “Boats, Combi/sports-fishing boats, Fishing and other special vessels, Miscellaneous plastic products, Plastic products, Repair and maintenance services of motor vehicles and associated equipment, Rubber, plastic and film products, Ships, Ships and boats, Transport equipment”. Clearly they do not make waterproofs nor PFDs.
Raven
The second photo has no explanation attached nor written on the back.
This quirky boat is either a raven or is just called ‘Raven’. The sails look horribly saggy and slack and the skipper may well be waiting to gybe. Again, no waterproofs or PFDs in sight and the essential skippers aid, a pipe to smoke. Anyone know what type of little sailboat this is?
Aldeburgh Lapwing known as a Redwing
The third photo is of a typical British one design dinghy. Another quirky boat straight out of Swallows and Amazons. The note on the back of the photo explains all. “The Aldeburgh Lapwings are a very old one design class, originally intended for children…”
The Yachting Collection has 2,000 + records and is growing as we upload the estimated 100,000 + records.
